Bio

Donovan created The Forks in his native home of Saskatchewan. Now, a seasonal resident of Quebec and Newfoundland, his banjo-driven music is exploring new horizons.

In recent years, Donovan has been creating indie folk music. Together with producer Jean Beaumier, the duo multi-tracked ten original songs at Koalamusik Studios in Montreal. Beaumier’s background in Afro-Caribbean music led to experimentation with percussion. This, along with upbeat clawhammer banjo, lends itself to a lively global roots style.

During the pandemic, Donovan continued to work independently on a track called Whatever You Want To Do, a song that uses Louisiana triangle and Romani jazz rhythms. Mateo Solkin has collaborated with vocal arrangements and harmonies. Susanna Milne has lent a third voice.

Donovan and Susanna perform in Newfoundland while they spend their summers working at L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. As they mark their fifth summer in Newfoundland, the influence of Atlantic music traditions has opened up further interest in Celtic Fusion.
